Since I will be spending most of the day with your child, I feel it is important that you know me personally and professionally.
I
was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My parents and siblings still
live in Tulsa, and I travel “home” with my family as often as possible. I
have a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from
Oklahoma State University. I taught four years of 1st grade in Owasso,
Oklahoma before moving to San Antonio in 1992. In 1998, I received a
Master's of Education degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction from
Texas Wesleyan University. Since coming to Woodridge in 1992, I have taught 19 years of second grade, 6 in third grade and this is my eighth year as a reading and math interventionist. As an interventionist, I will be working with students who are developing reading and math skills in 1st through 5th grade. My husband and our two children live in the Alamo Heights
School District. My son is currently in the workforce, and my
daughter is a Sophmore at Texas State University.
As
a result of my experience in education, I have developed personal
beliefs regarding education that impact my teaching. ~I am committed to
making a difference in each one of my students' lives. ~My mission as a
teacher is to provide children with a variety of engaging learning
experiences that will instill in them a love of learning. ~I believe
that all students can succeed, and the development of a positive
self-esteem is a critical component of academic success. I am dedicated
to developing a respectful, supportive, and risk-free learning
environment. ~This type of classroom environment empowers students to
reach their full academic potential. ~
I
am looking forward to working with you and your child. ~I know it will
be an exciting and productive school year. ~Parents and teachers have
the greatest influence in a child's life, and a partnership between home
and school has been proven to increase a child's success. ~I will keep
you informed of your child's progress this year, and welcome any insight
you can provide concerning your child's educational or emotional needs.
~I know that with our cooperation your child will have an outstanding
school year.
